Confidentiality and Ethics

  • Please read the following section “E Mail communication issues” as well as this section

  • I adhere to the Code of Ethics of the New Zealand Association of Psychotherapists. http://www.nzap.org.nz

  • I am supervised by professional colleagues and names of clients are not disclosed during supervision sessions.

  • Details of my conversations with you online are not disclosed to any other person unless there are safety issues. (It is important to read the next paragraph).

  • I work on the basis that clients (and supervisees) must take responsibility for their own safety and the safety of others as e mail connections do not provide ways for me to ensure your safety. The only exception to this arises if I am concerned a person may harm themselves or harm someone else. If you are a client from within New Zealand your permission will be requested first, and in circumstances where I must proceed to make a referral I will inform you before phoning a doctor, a mental health service or a crisis intervention service.

  • Overseas clients are advised I will write you an e mail insisting you contact someone if you are in danger of harming yourself or others.
