Supervision, mentoring and training; approach and experience.

  • Assignment coaching, edcuational advice for students and professionals is available
    • See the article on "Creative Supervision" at the foot of the web site page 2.

    • I designed and taught in two courses for supervisors in New Zealand. The first was a Certificate in Social Service Supervision which trained social workers and agency managers. It was available at Massey University in the Department of Social Policy and Social Work from 1983 to 1990. I re-designed and taught an existing programme at the Wellington Institute of Technology in 2004 where the Advanced Certificate in Social Service Supervision trained a variety of health and welfare professionals.
    • I supervise general practitioners, counsellors and psychotherapists. I am also involved in mentoring or supervising alcohol and drug counsellors, agency managers, educationalists and tutors, school counsellors, cultural counsellors, clergy, private practitioners and staff in voluntary and state agencies.
    • Feel free to ask for an outline of my views regarding creative supervision in a relationship where expansive views of issues, dynamics and processes are shared between the two of us as colleagues.
    • Supervision clients will be asked to provide me with information about current supervision arrangements and the nature of the work being done with people whether it be educational, health related, rehabilitative, social service focused, therapeutic or managerial.
    • Mentoring involves working with the potential and creativity already present in each educator or health professional. My role is to provide insights from my own experience and training and weave these into conversations which are designed to find new pathways.
    • Students or trainees in counselling, social service or psychotherapy programmes may find it helpful to consult me for encouragement, ideas and practice skills. I taught in degree based programmes for counsellors, therapists and social workers in a university and an institute of technology over a period of twenty years.
